Dog Rescue Work at the Stark County Pound
Stark is very rescue friendly. If you are a 501c3 tax-exempt rescue, you can pull a dog at a reduced fee. We will need your tax exemption letter with your EIN number, names of your board of directors, contact information with phone number, and the names of people authorized to pull for you. That information may be faxed to the Pound at 330-451-2350.
We have begun offering rescues help with pull fees and vetting when our cages become full. If a dog has been at the pound longer than his or her stray hold period, and funds are available, we may be able to assist with fees. Contact Margie at fotp.margieserri@yahoo.com or call 330-327-3338. Also, we can usually help with transport.
OUR STORY: In 2005, Margie Serri, President, Friends of the Pound and Mike Evans, assistant pounds keeper, began contacting animal shelters across the eastern part of the country to discover if any of them needed homeless dogs for adoption. When a shelter would agree to take homeless dogs, Serri and Evans would deliver some of Stark County's unwanted puppies and dogs.
In 2007, Serri and Evans were told about PetSmart Charities and the Rescue Waggin. Within a year, the Rescue Waggin' began rescuing puppies and dogs from Stark County and taking them to shelters where they will be adopted.
Every year in the United States 6,000,000 to 8,000,000 pets enter shelters and pounds; sadly, 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 animals are euthanized. In 2004, PetSmart Charities created a solution known as the Rescue Waggin to help save the lives of homeless dogs and puppies. The Rescue Waggin operates in the Midwest, Northeast and Great Plains area of the United States where the high levels of pet overpopulation and homeless dogs face almost certain euthanasia. The Rescue Waggin rescues dogs from overpopulated areas and transports them to areas where adoptable dogs are in demand. Since its conception, the Rescue Waggin has saved the lives of more than 18,000 dogs and counting.

With one goal in mind, the Stark County Pound and Friends of the Pound work in cooperation with over 50 other great rescue organizations to save the lives of puppies and dogs. Please adopt a pet today.
