This poor dog came to the pound in terrible condition. His coat was unkempt, it was thinning out on the top and the poor boy's tail was almost completely bald. He was such a sorrowful, yet loving fellow. For many many weeks this boy waited and hoped for a home where he would be loved and taken care of.
He was well cared for by volunteers from Friends of the Pound and he had a safe home at the pound. The volunteers made sure he was groomed, walked, and socialized because that would help him remain adoptable. But the condition of his coat didn't exactly attract the right type of attention from families that were looking for a new dog. After being at the pound almost longer than any other dog, he became the Feature Pet with the hopes that the extra exposure would help him find a home.
Finally, it happened! He was adopted and named, Lucky Ducky.
When I heard that the sad boy with the bald tail had been adopted, I was happy to know that someone was able to look past his disheveled appearance and look into his eyes and see a good dog. It was great to know that he would now have a family to love him and take care of him.
When I saw pictures of the newly named Lucky Ducky, I could not believe my eyes. The dog had a complete identity change from the dog that was at the pound.
Instead of being a fearful, sorrowful, and bedraggled homeless dog, he looked like a real champ! He had a look of confidence and hope in his eyes and as he ran with the ball in the final picture, he looked as if complete joy had taken over his personality.
To everyone who has ever had a hand in helping to change the identity of a homeless dog, thank you!
