| Jet & Charlie's Happy Tail ♥ Our Top Gun, Jet
In December of 2005, my husband, Brandon and I decided it was time to get a dog. He worked a lot at night and he wanted me to have a 'friend' at home. Since his step-mom, Margie Serri had really taught us that rescue dogs need homes as much as any dog, I started looking on the Dog Pound's - Petfinder Website. As soon as I saw him, this gorgeous male husky, my heart melted (he was just under two years old). My husband on the other hand wasn't so sure, but we went down to the Pound to see him. The first moment that my husband saw him face-to-face, he knew he would be ours. We took him home that night...not sure what to name him; until we took him to Ashtabula to meet my family and he ran away. All we kept thinking was...Oh no, the first day that we have him and he is gone!! Luckily, a wonderful woman called us and told us that she had him. Then we FINALLY decided on a name...Jet...for I had never seen a dog run soooo gracefully and fast in the snow before!
The first week we had Jet I was with him every day. He was potty-trained and so well behaved, but the markings on his face kind of scared me. It wasn't long before the fear was gone, Jet would sit on the couch all perked up just staring at me with this big old smile on his face, then I knew he would be our forever friend. He seemed happy, but something was missing for him.
Two years later, we bought a house and decided to get him a friend. It was at that time that we told Margie that we wanted another husky. Finally, one came into the Pound; a beautiful (just under a year old) little girl. We named her Charlie (pictured on the right)...we were kind of corny and went with a Top Gun theme. At first Jet didn't really like her, but after about three weeks past, Jet began to like Charlie. They loved to play in the back yard all day long, jumping and running through the snow. They were so perfect for each other. Charlie had so much energy, while Jet was more laid back. She was the lap dog that I always wanted and Jet was the one that would always lay at my feet. Jet got the spark back that I always knew he had in him and Charlie took on some of his qualities too. They were the perfect pair. When they would howl..or talk as husky owners would say...it was just amazing. They were able to spend a little over a year with each other.
Sadly, Jet (pictured on the left) passed away very suddenly, on Saturday, September 14, 2008. Even though we had just three years with him, it feels like a lifetime. I know that the three of us, especially Charlie loved him very much and we gave him the best home he could have ever deserved. He is sadly missed by all of us. Jet was, and Charlie is amazingly perfect dogs!! Thank you Margie for bringing them into our lives!!
